MEMJET WATERFALL TYPE DESKTOP FULL COLOUR SELF ADHESIVE LABEL BULK TANK INK JET PRINTERS
Memjet is a manufacturers trade name for fixed position print head technology often called ‘waterfall’ technique. This because the ink drops from the head as a waterfall curtain (actually like a complete line spray right across the printer, as the label are moved underneath so only the labels move in a Memjet printer. Memjet printers print labels at high speeds typically 6 or 12 inches per second (300mm per second is easily achived). The printers are also sometimes called ‘bulk tank’ printers since they have large 250ml replaceable ink tanks for each colour so with c, y, m, k, k (there are two black tanks) the total ink capacity is 1.25 Litres. By buying the ink in bulk the cost per label print is greatly reduced typically up to 1/10 the running cost of a cartridge based printer so the Memjet printers suit users who have a high quantity of labels to print or just would like the lowest possible cost per label with a pretty high print speed. Memjet printers use water based dye ink so best suited to use on short life product like food and drink though extended life can be achieved by over laminating using on of our Label Finishing machines. Some new waterfall bulk tank printers use pigment ink, this ink includes coloured particulate that is more durable for longer label life and even outdoor use when also using plastic rather that paper based labels, so look at the pigment ink machines if you need high durability.
VIPCOLOR VP700e (Memjet) bulk tank dye ink 1600 dpi (£4250) (0.5p)
The VP700e is our best selling bulk tank high speed Memjet colour label printer. Based on the success of the fixed head Memjet system with 5 x separate 250ml ink tanks c, y , m, k, k (two black) the VP700e is easy very and economical to use. For example we install the VP700e in food producers replacing old thermal ribbon printers. The customer can print fully detailed colour labels say for jars, sandwiches or bakery for a cost of one penny, about the same cost when they were using a black only printer, but of course with a full colour printer they can easily change the product details and add high quality pictures and logos whenever needed. The 1600 dpi colour print quality is far superior to the old 300dpi black ribbon printing methods bringing much higher appeal to the labels, the ability to vary colours and product photos as well as adding the ingredients and nutrition as fine quality print for example.
The VP700e handles labels up to 8 inches (203 mm) which is useful so you can design and print a greater range of labels in narrow edge lead or wide edge lead format. The print speed is fast up to 12 inches (300 mm) per second so your labels are printed in moments. For example a 4 x 3 inch (102 mm x 76 mm) full colour label can be printed in say a third of a second, or 180 per minute, or 10,800 per hour wow!* VIPCOLOR added a useful feature in the software, a one click ‘bleed to edge’ setting. When selected it makes it easy to automatically overlap the label a little at the edges so to make sure there are no white parts left even if the label registration moves a small amount as its printed. We configure the VP700e with a set of inks and print head and a Microsoft Windows Driver to you can connect the printer to your existing PC or LAPTOP computer software or have a look at the free download of BarTender Professional here our most popular fully populated fully supported label layout software. The compatible options include a motorised auto reversing roll winder to make neat rolls for use in our dispensers or applicators. The VP700e is popular for high speed printing of outer packaging labels, tests should be performed to check the print quality is good for your particular applications and use for prime pack or full solid colour labelling may not be recommended.

THERMAL TRANSFER OVERPRINTERS (from £241 ) (0.2p***)
*** black or one colour print only, used to print barcodes and text onto plain or part printed labels to finally configure for different product and packaging.
History has it that I have run businesses supplying single colour label printers since their introduction in 1984. Originally the printers were used to print barcode labels for printing labels to scan and track pallets of metal parts through large factories but soon I realised printers had wider appeal and started to sell them for product and packaging labelling. The printers use a low heat to either turn the clear coating on a label black (Direct Thermal) or by running a spool of black ribbon between the head and the label the ink from the ribbon is melted and transferred to the label. (Thermal Transfer).
The printer on the right of the photo shows how the printer can print one colour, the colour of the ribbon is usually black but can also be red, blue, yellow, gold, silver and more, just by loading a different ribbon. The printer at the centre shows how we can provide labels that are part printed with a full colour design say you logo or a customers ‘own brand’ then the printer can add all the product details to the label so to print exactly the correct number of labels for each different product. We call this ‘overprinting’ since we are adding variable details to ready printed labels. The ready printed or ‘pre-printed’ labels are made in our factories and delivered on rolls that drop into the printer along with the ribbon spool. The printer shown on the right represents the latest technology in direct thermal printing or overprinting. Modern thermal printers can print at high speeds typically 14 inches (355 mm) per second. It does not take any time at all to print a strip of labels or indeed hundreds or thousands per day. We recommend and supply a powered roll winders to rewind labels back onto a roll if there are many to print and why not grab a coffee whilst the printer with winder prints all the days labels needed. Thermal transfer printers print onto self-adhesive paper or plastic labels and when using a hardened resin ribbon type onto the latter, the printed labels are good for durability outdoors and with a good chemical and scratch resistance. Low cost thermal printers as low as 200dpi are popular for printing barcodes but 300dpi ensures EAN13 barcodes used in retail are printed to a reliable 100% magnification. Now we have 600dpi thermal printers able to print quite small test and clearly at speed and ideal for the small print now needed on food label ingredients listings and general label instructions. See a full range of thermal printers here.
SOLO KEYPAD – SINGLE FINGER LABEL SELECT SYSTEM (NO PC)
Whilst it takes no more skills to print your own labels than using an office word processor on a computer, not everyone is so computer savvy. Additionally the user may want to print labels at the work place in a location where there is no computer. Enter SOLO and SOLO2, this uses a combination of a thermal printer, a small keypad with display and even when needed a membrane cover to protect the keypad for use in wet or messy production areas. SOLO does come with software to allow us if you wish or someone at your site who does have a PC or LAPTOP to create a list of your label information then load it into the SOLO system, at which point the SOLO will operate as stand alone. The user only needs to tap a number say 1 to 99 into the keypad to select a label for printing, followed by the quantity needed.

EXTREME DURABLE LABEL PRINTER (from £13265 ) (10p***)
*** black on white or white on black laser etched label
The PRIMERA LP130e (peviously DL500e) is a very special printer designed to laser beam etch your label details deep into the surface of a high durable polyester label. The label is actually made of several layers of high temperature proof polyester including a clear top
layer, black an white middle layers and the high grab adhesive at the base. Then the laser beam enters through the clear top layer, burns away some of the black layer revealing the white layer so the white shows through as printed text. The top clear label is not eroded so remains to totally protect the encapsulated printed layer within. The resulting labels can withstand high abrasion and chemical attack and
are used for example to label military hardware but find other uses providing robust labels for plant and equipment, engines and vehicle applications.
